history
The city was first mentioned in documents in 1267. Rosenau was a well-known climatic health resort as early as the middle of the 19th century.
In 1980, the municipality Rysová , which was formed in 1960 from the merger of the villages Hážovice ( Haschowitz ) and Tylovice ( Tillowitz , older Tillendorf ), was incorporated and dissolved.
Until the political turning point in 1989, the city was dominated by the Tesla electronics combine , which was the main employer for Rožnov and its surroundings. After the introduction of the market economy , the large company "Tesla", whose main customers had previously been the Eastern Bloc countries and especially the Soviet Union , ceased. This led to high unemployment. From a few TESLA companies, new companies were founded that continued the tradition of the former factory. Manufacturing facilities for solar modules and solar cells are relatively new . Furthermore, branches of Bosch , Siemens , Brose and Motorola settled in Rožnov and the surrounding area .
In Rožnov there is an indoor swimming pool , several outdoor pools, a campsite, tennis and golf facilities. There are ski lifts and trails for winter sports.
In the town there is also the Na Bučiskách ski area , which was built in 1957 and consists of three small and one medium hill.
Wallachian Open Air Museum
One of the most famous attractions in Rožnov is the Wallachian Open Air Museum (Valašské muzeum v přírodě), which has collected Wallachian folk architecture from different places and depicts the life of people in earlier times. Part of the museum is located in the city park. There are several wooden houses that have been moved over the years, which at that time represented the majority of the buildings in Rožnov. In addition to houses, a church, a school and a restaurant can also be visited.
Right next to it is the mill canal, on which old craft traditions such as mills, forges and other handicraft businesses are shown. Further up on Radhošť in Pustevny at the end of the 19th century Dušan Jurkovič built ornate scrap wood buildings with Wallachian style elements. There are guided tours through these two parts of the museum in the local language.
The legendary long-distance runner Emil Zátopek (“The Czech Locomotive”) was buried here in 2000 in the “Valašský Slavín” cemetery of honor .
