history

oldest local seal

The area behind the Soláň in the border area between Moravia and Hungary remained uninhabited for a long time. During the Thirty Years' War, some residents of the Rožnov manor sought refuge in the dense primeval forests of fir and beech and settled in the upper Vsetínská Bečva valley belonging to the Vsetín manor . About six families lived in the valley until the beginning of the 18th century. On November 9th, 1714, the owner of the Rožnov estate, Karl Heinrich von Zierotin , founded the settlement Carlowicze in the border area of his estate . The village initially consisted of nine properties and grew by granting freedom to the settlers, who came not only from Moravia, but also from Upper Hungary and Poland. After there was a battle with 13 dead in Machůzky in 1733 due to border disputes, folk tradition even mentions 59 fallen, the border between Moravia and Hungary was closed in 1734, the course of which was on the ridge of the Javorníky to Makov - Passport has been set. The border was protected by Portashen Corps, and 43 chartaks and 70 guard houses were built along its course . The forest on the border between the Chartaks was cut on two fathoms. In 1750 Karlovice consisted of 132 farms. In 1774 the Bohemian Queen Maria Theresa ended the differences between the dominions Rožnov and Vsetín around Karlovice by dividing the village. Malé Karlovice , Bzové, Soláň, Stanovnice, Pluskovec and Tísňavy thus became subject to Vsetín; Hrubé Karlovice and the rest of the settlements remained with Rožnov. In 1826, Count Kinsky had the Františčina huť glassworks built in Leskové . By the middle of the 19th century, a large part of the forests was cleared, the proportion of forests fell to 20 percent. Instead of the original beech and fir forests, spruce monocultures have been reforested. Until the middle of the 19th century, Hrubé Karlovice remained subordinate to the Rožnov rule.

After the abolition of patrimonial formed Hrubé Karlovice / United Karlowitz in 1850 a municipality in the district administration Valašské Meziříčí . In 1863, the Reich family of glass manufacturers built a new glassworks, Mariánská huť, in Leskové. In 1870 reforestation of agricultural areas began. In the course of creating the land registers, 15 houses from Bzové and part of Soláň were added to the Nový Hrozenkov cadastre in 1888 . In 1896 the Vsetínská Bečva was regulated. In 1908 the local railway Wsetin – Groß-Karlowitz started operations. Since 1910 the municipality has belonged to the Vsetín District. In 1966, Malé Karlovice was incorporated. At the same time, the village of Zadní Stanovnice, comprising 26 houses, was spun off from Malé Karlovice and the Karolinka cadastre was added.
