history

Valašská Bystřice is one of the youngest settlements in Moravian Wallachia . The upper valley of the Bystřice , with its thick forests, was sparsely populated by Wallachian Pasekars in the 17th century. These laid out individual fields ( Paseken ) in the forests and settled scattered on the mountain meadows thus created. Around 1620 these Paseken were first referred to as Bystřice and from 1629 they were differentiated into Velká Bystřice and Bystřiček . After the Thirty Years War, Wallachian insurgents hid in the woods. In 1651 the lords of Zierotin on Krasna had a land register for Nová Bystřice . It can be seen from this that the settlement at that time consisted of a bailiwick, 15 chaluppets and six poor huts that were widely scattered. In 1675 the settlement was called Gross Bystržitz and the year after the first bailiff Randýsek called Randýskova Bystřice . In the course of time, stately lumberjacks settled in the area, who bought land from the rulers on the lofts at a low price and made the stony ground arable. The first two bailiffs from the Křenek family ensured that the place flourished. Jiří Křenek had a portas station built in Gross Bystržitz in 1735 and led the corps as porter lieutenant . Under his son of the same name (1721–1791) construction of the church, the rectory and the school began in 1772. At that time the village became famous for its wooden products and wooden toys . A specialty was the production of colored smoked toys, which were sold as far as Vienna and Prussia . Until its dissolution in 1829, the Portaschen Corps secured the border with Hungary from robbers and paschers . In 1834 the place consisted of 191 houses and had 1573 inhabitants. In 1846 the municipality was called Hrubá Bistřica . The typhus epidemic of 1847, which claimed 40 victims, was the reason for the construction of the new cemetery. Until the middle of the 19th century, the village was always subject to the Rožnov rule.

After the abolition of patrimonial Hrubá Bistřica / Groß Bistrzitz formed from 1849 a community in the district administration Meziříčí . From 1872 the village was called Velká Bystřice . In 1898, 2191 people lived in Velká Bystřice's 303 houses. Two independence linden trees were planted in front of the church in 1919. In the 1921 census, Velká Bystřice had 2064 inhabitants. The official name was changed in 1925 at the request of the municipal council in Valašská Bystřice . In 1935 the civic school was officially opened. After the end of the Second World War, the number of inhabitants fell significantly as a result of emigration to the border areas . Some of the workshops merged in 1947 to form the Portáš production cooperative, which, in addition to wooden goods, also made wooden and metal carts. In 1948 bus services to Rožnov pod Radhoštěm began. During this time the road along the Bystřice to Horní konec was built. On January 1, 1954, the settlement of Videčské Paseky was moved from Vidče to Valašská Bystřice, which increased the population of the municipality to 2000. In the 1980s, a kindergarten was established and the primary school was expanded to include a teaching pavilion. After the cancellation of the Okres Valašské Meziříčí, Valašská Bystřice was assigned to the Okres Vsetín in 1960.
