history

Place seal from 1748

The village was founded in the 14th century during the colonization of the Vsetín rule and was first mentioned in 1504 under the name Johanowa in the Olomouc land tablets . In 1535 the place was called Juhanowa . During the Thirty Years War, the residents of the place took part in the Wallachian uprising. When it was suppressed, Juhannova was burned down in February 1644 and its residents including the bailiff were executed. After the end of the war, the place was repopulated. In 1663 the Turks invaded Juhannova and killed 92 residents. The place name Johanowa has been passed down since 1670 . At that time the owners were the Counts Illésházy. In 1683 the village was again ravaged by Turkish troops and in 1708 by the Kuruc . Pestilence broke out in the area between 1713 and 1715. The oldest place seal dates from 1748; it bears the inscription PECZET P OBCI D IOHANOWEG and shows a bellflower. The Catholic parish has always been Vsetín. Between 1844 and 1850 the Vsetín school in Ústí had a branch, which the children from Janová also visited. The inhabitants lived from agriculture, which was not very productive. That is why the majority of them worked as seasonal workers in the Moravian interior. Homeworkers were Babuschen and Kotzen made. Later on, numerous residents made their living as workers in the Vsetín factories. Until the middle of the 19th century the village was always subject to the Vsetín rule.

After the abolition of patrimonial Johannowa formed from 1849 a community in the district administration Valašské Meziříčí . At that time, a tenth of the population emigrated to Texas . Since 1872 the place was called Johanová or Johanowa . A school was built in Johanová between 1874 and 1875. In 1890 a cemetery was built west of the village. The volunteer fire brigade was formed in 1897. Since 1910 Johanová has belonged to the Vsetín district. In 1948 the village was renamed Janová . In 1975 Janová was incorporated into Vsetín. The school in Janová was closed in 1980 and the children were retrained to primary school in the Ohrada district of Vsetín. In 1991 a partial elementary school was built again in Janová. Janová has existed again since 1992 and since 1999 it has had a coat of arms and a banner.
