history
The first written mention of the village Strzietez belonging to the Diocese of Olomouc took place in 1376. In 1389 the place was referred to as Strites and 1396 as Střítežík . At the beginning of the 16th century the village was attached to the Meziříčí-Rožnov rule. In 1505 the place was called Strzitez . In 1548 the Counts Zierotin acquired the property. The village consisted of 36 houses in 1636. The oldest local seal dates from 1731. Between 1777 and 1781, 99 families in Strzitez committed themselves to Protestantism on the basis of a patent of tolerance that was probably forged in the Catholic Malá Lhota . The inhabitants of the village lived from agriculture. The first school was inaugurated in 1838. Until the middle of the 19th century the village always remained subservient to Rožnov and was mostly called Střítež pod Rožnovem .
After the abolition of patrimonial Střítež / Strietesch formed from 1849 a municipality in the district administration Meziříčí . In 1882 the school moved into a newly built school building. The "Střítež nad Bečvou" railway station on the Valašské Meziříčí – Rožnov pod Radhoštěm railway line was inaugurated in 1892. In 1897 a post office was set up in Střítež. Since 1921 the municipality has had the official name Střítež nad Bečvou , previously it was called Střítež u Rožnova . At the beginning of the 1940s, Antonín Trčka founded an artificial leather factory with over 100 employees. This was nationalized and shut down after the Communists came to power in 1948. After the Okres Valašské Meziříčí was abolished, the municipality was assigned to the Okres Vsetín in 1960. At the beginning of 1985 the village was incorporated into Zašová . Classes in Střítež were discontinued in 1986 and the schoolhouse was then converted into a kindergarten. School locations today are Vidče and Zašová. In 1991 Střítež broke away from Zašová. The municipality has had a coat of arms since 2000.
