history

Zašová was probably founded at the beginning of the 14th century. The first written mention of the village belonging to the Rožnov domain was in 1370. The oldest local seal dates from 1425. There was a hunting castle on the Sovinec hill in the 15th century. In 1505 the village was called Zassowa , 1511 Jašove and 1535 Ziassowu . In 1549 the Lords of Zierotin acquired the rule of Meziříčí -Rožnov. School education in Zašová probably began in the first half of the 17th century. The place name Zašovic has been handed down from 1629 . The church with the image of Mary has been a popular pilgrimage site for the Wallachians since the Middle Ages. In 1675 the place was called Zassowa . Karl Heinrich von Zierotin had the old wooden church demolished in 1714 and replaced by a new baroque building. In 1722 the Trinitarian Monastery of St. Josef was founded, which existed until 1793. The residents lived from agriculture and forest work. Later a mill, board saw as well as quarries, ceramics and wood goods factories were built. Until the middle of the 19th century, the village was always subject to Rožnov.

After the abolition of patrimonial Žassowa / Zaschau formed from 1849 a municipality in the district administration Meziříčí . From 1872 the place was called Žašová and since 1881 as Zašová . The railway station was built in 1891. In 1896 a new school was built. After the Okres Valašské Meziříčí was abolished, the municipality was assigned to the Okres Vsetín in 1960. After the inauguration of the new nine-grade school, the old school was used as a children's home from 1963. At the beginning of 1985 Střítež nad Bečvou and Veselá were incorporated. In 1991 Střítež broke up again. Since 2000, the community has had a coat of arms based on the old town seal, the Zierotine lion and the Trinitarian cross.

After its completion, the order erected the monastery buildings next to the church. In 1783 the monastery was closed as part of the Josephin reforms. The buildings then served as a rectory, school and commercial space. In 1898 the painter Rudolf Schlattauer set up his workshop for tapestries and carpets in the monastery, which he moved to Valašské Meziříčí in 1908. In 1901, the St. Josephs Stift in Mährisch Ostrau bought the building and set up a home for orphaned and disabled girls. From 1911 to 1948 there was a private girls' school in the former monastery. It then served as a special school with a boarding school and, after its closure, as a retirement home. Since 1985 the monastery has been used as a social welfare institution for mentally handicapped young people.
  • Stračka pilgrimage site at the Marienquelle, northeast of the village at the foot of Ostrý vrch. According to a legend, the chapel was built by a knight as thanks for his rescue while fleeing from the Tatars. The Virgin Mary is said to have led him to the healing spring. In the 18th century the Trinitarians had a new chapel built on the square with the image of the Virgin Mary of Zaschau. In 1811 a flow box was built from the spring and in 1853 a stone cross was erected. In 1893 Stračka was surrounded by a stone wall and a Marian grotto was created.
