Velká Lhota (German Groß Lhota , formerly Groß Lhotta ) is a municipality in the Moravian Wallachia in the Czech Republic . It is located seven kilometers southeast of Valašské Meziříčí and belongs to the Okres Vsetín .

Velká Lhota extends in the west of the Wsetin Mountains on the upper reaches of the Dědinský potok on a slope between 540 and 360 m nm to the east rises the U Javora (573 m), in the south-east the Ostrý vrch (672 m), south of the Klenov (678 m) m) and the Štípa (706 m), in the southwest of the Zádrhlov (572 m) and the Medůvka (608 m) and in the west the Vrchhůra (692 m). South of the village in the Bystřička valley lies the Bystřička reservoir. To the east is the protected landscape area CHKO Beskydy.

Neighboring towns are V Sojově, Veselá , Dolansko and Střítež nad Bečvou in the north, Vidče in the north-east, Střítežské Paseky, Videčské Paseky, V Javoří and Fatůrky in the east, Paseky, U Pavlů and U Malíků in the southeast, Daradebů im., Uehradůr South, Pohořeliska, Páleniska and Kozinec in the south-west, Malá Lhota in the west and Vichury, Sýkoří, Hrachovec and Na Pasekách in the north-west.

history

The place was created as a forest hoof village and was probably created during the German colonization. The first written mention of the village Lhota belonging to the Krasno rule was made in 1374. Since 1411, Stachowa Lhota was subject to the Rožnov rule. In 1505 the village was referred to as Lukanowa Lhota , 1535 as ves Lukaniowu Lhotu or Lukáňova Lhota and in 1594 as Chmelowa Lhota or Chmelová Lhota . In 1516 the village consisted of a bailiwick and six farms, one of which was desolate. During the Thirty Years' War, the residents of Chmelová Lhota , led by Vogt Vantucha, took part in the Wallachian Uprising. The current name Velká Lhota can be traced back to 1635 for the first time. In the hoof register of 1675 the bailiwick, eight inns and 17 chalets are recorded for Gross Lhota . In the land register of 1775 the Vogt, five Ganzhüfner, two Halbhüfner and 39 cottagers are listed. In 1834 the place had 517 inhabitants. The residents made their living from agriculture, especially cattle breeding, and made wooden agricultural utensils, sticks, brooms and mother-of-pearl pipes at home. From 1846 the place name Hrubá Lhota became common. Until the middle of the 19th century, the village was always subject to Rožnov.

After the abolition of patrimonial formed Hrubá Lhota / United Lhotta 1849 a municipality in the district administration Valašské Meziříčí . In the same year a school was set up in a rented room in the upper part of the village. Before that, lessons took place in Veselá. In 1857 the community bought a chalet and converted it into a school. After an evangelical school was established in the village of V Okluce belonging to Malá Bystřice in 1868 , the evangelical children from Hrubá Lhota were retrained there until it was closed in 1883. Since 1872 the village has been called Velká Lhota . In 1895 the school moved into a new school building. Between 1907 and 1912, the dam on the Bystřička was built south of the village, which was supposed to supply water to the planned Danube-Oder-Elbe Canal . Velká Lhota had 590 inhabitants in 1910. In 1921 the school opened a branch in the U Pavlů settlement. In 1935 the volunteer fire brigade was founded.

After the Okres Valašské Meziříčí was abolished, the municipality was assigned to the Okres Vsetín in 1960. In 1970 395 people lived in the 98 houses in Velká Lhota. The schools in Velká Lhota and U Pavlů were closed in 1977. Since then, the children from Velká Lhota have been educated in Valašské Meziříčí; Since then, lessons for the children from the Paseken in the south-eastern part of the municipality who have previously been schooled in U Pavlů have been held in Valašská Bystřice . In 1980 Malá Lhota was incorporated.

The district of Velká Lhota has an area of ​​709 hectares. In 1991, 324 people lived in the 89 houses in the district of Velká Lhota. The former school in Velká Lhota was converted into a municipal office in the 1990s. On March 1st, 2001 there were 115 houses and 315 inhabitants in Velká Lhota, 406 people lived in the whole municipality. In terms of denominations, the majority of these belong to the Evangelical Church of the Bohemian Brethren . The Catholic parish is Veselá.

The municipality of Velká Lhota consists of the hamlets of Malá Lhota ( Little Lhota ) and Velká Lhota ( Big Lhota ) as well as the settlements Darebňa, Kozinec, Na Kopečku, Na Rovni, Paseky, U Malíků, U Pavlů, U Přehrady and part of Fatůrky.

Tolerance Church
  • Evangelical Tolerance Church in Velká Lhota, the towerless, clapboard and simple wooden building was built in 1783. The interior dates from 1839. The church is unheated and has no artificial lighting.

  • The timbered bell tower in Malá Lhota, the bell cast in 1687 was sold to the church in Veselá in 1689. In 1870 the bell came back to Malá Lhota.
  • The reservoir Bystřička (Czech: "Vodní nádrž Bystřička" or simply "přehrada" ) on the mountain river of the same name, a recreation area and flood protection.

Personalities
