history

On November 9th, 1714, the owner of the Rožnov estate , Karl Heinrich von Zierotin , founded the settlement Carlowicze in the border area of his estate . The village initially consisted of nine properties and grew by granting freedom to the settlers, who came not only from Moravia, but also from Upper Hungary and Poland. The exact course of the border in the primeval forests of the Javorníky was unclear. After a battle with 13 dead broke out in Machůzky due to border disputes in 1733, folk tradition even speaks of 59 fallen, the Moravian-Hungarian border was cleared in 1734, the course of which ran along the ridge of the Javorníky to the Makov- Passport was set. The border was protected by Portashen Corps, and 43 chartaks and 70 guard houses were built along its course . The forest on the border between the Chartaks was cut on two fathoms. In 1750 Karlovice consisted of 132 farms. In 1774 the Bohemian Queen Maria Theresa ended the differences between the dominions Rožnov and Vsetín around Karlovice by dividing the village, which at that time had a land register of 86 km². Malé Karlovice, Bzové, Soláň, Stanovnice, Pluskovec and Tísňavy thus became subject to Vsetín; Hrubé Karlovice and the rest of the settlements remained with Rožnov. At the beginning of the 19th century, the land registry of Malé Karlovice had an area of 20 km². The founding of the Františčina huť glassworks in Leskové in 1826 contributed to the fact that a large part of the forests was cleared by the middle of the 19th century and the proportion of forests fell to 20 percent. Instead of the original beech and fir forests, spruce monocultures have been reforested. Until the middle of the 19th century, Malé Karlovice remained subservient to the Vsetín rule.

After the abolition of patrimonial formed Malé Karlovice / Klein Karlowitz in 1850 a municipality in the district administration Valašské Meziříčí . In 1870 reforestation of agricultural areas began. Since 1910 the municipality has belonged to the Vsetín District. In 1966 Malé Karlovice was incorporated into Velké Karlovice . At the same time, the village of Zadní Stanovnice, comprising 26 houses, was spun off from Malé Karlovice and added to the Karolinka cadastre . In 1991 there were 272 people in Malé Karlovice. In the 2001 census, 130 residential buildings and 234 residents were counted.
