geography

A few kilometers from Landa there is a terminal moraine at the southern end of Lake Haukalivatn. Around 1823, this moraine inspired mountain professor Jens Esmark to the theory that all of Scandinavia was covered by ice.

The Pulpit Rock was a well-known attraction in the municipality of Forsand. It is a rocky plateau that is about 600 m above the Lysefjord . The local name is Hyvlatånnå. The Lysefjord is long and narrow with steep sides and was described by Jules Verne as particularly frightening. The name comes from the light granite rock walls.

Another impressive rock massif is the Kjerag , which rises steeply about 1000 m above the Lysefjord.
