The Bulgarian-Portuguese relations describe the intergovernmental relationship between Bulgaria and Portugal . The countries have maintained renewed diplomatic relations since 1974 .

They are both members of the EU and NATO , alongside numerous international organizations, including the Council of Europe , the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe , the International Monetary Fund and the various UN organizations .

Another point of reference is the Bulgarian community in Portugal that has immigrated since the 1990s. In 2015, 6,722 Bulgarian citizens were registered in Portugal; their remittances totaled 6.48 million euros in 2016.

In Bulgaria, 112 Portuguese citizens were registered in the consular office (2011 figures).

history

The Portuguese Chamber of Commerce AICEP has an office at the Portuguese Embassy in Sofia.

The bilateral trade volume in 2016 amounted to 191.8 million euros, with a trade surplus in favor of Bulgaria of 18.0 million euros.

In 2016, Portugal exported goods and services worth EUR 86.9 million to Bulgaria ( 2015 : 85.7 million; 2014 : 81.0 million; 2013 : 65.1 million; 2012 : 76.4 million .). The most important product groups were machines and devices with 27.5%, 22.4% minerals and ores, 10.2% plastics and 9.0% vehicles and vehicle parts.

Culture

The Portuguese cultural institute Instituto Camões has a language center in Sofia and a large number of lectureships at a number of universities and schools in Bulgaria.
