Iwajlo Jordanow (born April 22, 1968 in Samokow / Bulgaria ) is a former football player of the Bulgarian national team .

Sporting successes

In 1991 he was the top scorer of the Bulgarian A Grupa with 21 goals . In 2000 he won the Portuguese championship with Sporting Lisbon and is the title holder of the Portuguese Cup Taça de Portugal . He played (in the championship and in the UEFA Cup ) a total of 312 games in which he was able to score 63 goals for Sporting Lisbon .

In 1998 he received the Footballer of the Year award (Bulgaria) .

Games in the Bulgarian national team

Ivailo Jordanov made his debut for the Bulgarian national team on May 28, 1991 against Brazil (0: 3). He was used in a total of 51 games in which he scored four goals. His last game took place on August 16, 2000 against Belgium (1: 3 in Sofia ). He is part of the most successful Bulgarian national team to date, for the 1994 World Cup in the USA (played in 5 games) and took part in the 1998 World Cup in France and the 1996 European Football Championship in England (3 games each).

Further career

In 2001 he was assistant coach at Sporting Lisbon and in 1995 he became an honorary citizen of the community of Gorna Orjachowiza for his sporting successes. For some time he was the assistant coach of Christo Stoitschkow in the national team of Bulgaria.
