The Talavera district is located in the Andahuaylas province of the Apurímac region in south-central Peru . The district was established on August 21, 1963. It has an area of 158 km². The 2017 census counted 19,251 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 16,131, in 2007 it was 16,649. The district administration is located in the 2820 m high town of Talavera (also Talavera de la Reyna) with 11,764 inhabitants (as of 2017), western suburb of the provincial capital Andahuaylas .
Geographical location
The Talavera district is located in the Andean highlands in the north of the Andahuaylas province. The River Chumbao crosses the district in a northerly direction.
The Talavera district borders in the southwest with the district Santa María de Chicmo , in the northwest with the district Ocobamba ( province Chincheros ), in the northeast with the districts Andarapa and Pacucha , in the southeast with the district Andahuaylas and in the south with the district Turpo .
