Sonja Molnar (born April 29, 1990 in Brampton , Ontario ) is a former Canadian tennis player .

Career

Molnar played mostly tournaments on the ITF Women's Circuit , where she won three singles and one double title.

From 2009 to 2012 she played for the "Iowa Hawkeyes" , the team from the University of Iowa .

On the WTA Tour , Sonja Molnar made her debut with a wildcard in qualifying for the Rogers Cup 2012 , where she lost 3: 6 and 3: 6 against Mirjana Lučić-Baroni in the first round . For the qualification of the Rogers Cup 2013 she received another wildcard, but lost again in the first round against Madison Keys with 2: 6 and 2: 6. Then she lost in the qualification for the Challenge Bell 2013 also in the first round against Melanie Oudin with 4: 6 and 2: 6.

In 2014 she and her partner Charlotte Petrick received a wild card for the main draw in the Coupe Banque Nationale présentée par Bell 2014 doubles , where they reached the quarter-finals with a win against the doubles Ayan Broomfield and Maria Patrascu, who also started with a wildcard . There they lost against the pairing Barbora Krejčíková and Tatjana Maria with 3: 6 and 4: 6.
