The province of Chincheros is located in the northwest of the administrative region Apurímac in southern Peru . The province extends over an area of ​​1242 km². The 2017 census counted 45,247 inhabitants in the Chincheros province. Ten years earlier the population was 51,583. The provincial capital is Chincheros .

Geographical location

The province of Chincheros is located in the mountains of the Peruvian Central Cordillera . It is surrounded in the west and northeast by the Río Pampas , a left tributary of the Río Apurímac .

The province of Chincheros borders the Ayacucho region to the west and northeast and the Andahuaylas province to the southeast .
