The district of Cocharcas is located in the province of Chincheros in the Apurímac region in central Peru . The district was established on June 21, 1825. The district covers an area of ​​108 km². The 2017 census counted 1,824 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1955, in 2007 it was 2254. The district administration is located in the village of Cocharcas with 488 inhabitants at an altitude of 3030  m (as of 2017). Cocharcas is located 10 km south-southwest of the provincial capital Chincheros .

Geographical location

The district of Cocharcas is located in the Andean highlands in the southwest of the Chincheros province on the right eastern bank of the north-flowing Río Pampas.

The district of Cocharcas borders in the west on the districts Saurama , Vilcas Huamán and Concepción (all three in the province Vilcas Huamán ), in the north on the district Chincheros , in the east on the district Anco Huallo and in the southeast on the district Uranmarca .
