The Chincheros district is located in the Chincheros Province in the Apurímac region in central Peru . The district was established on June 21, 1825. The district covers an area of ​​135 km². In the 2017 census, 5535 inhabitants were counted. In 1993 the population was 4889, in 2007 it was 5706. The district administration is located in the provincial capital Chincheros at an altitude of 2772  m with 1841 inhabitants (as of 2017). The national road 3S from Ayacucho to Andahuaylas runs through the district and the city.

Geographical location

The district of Chincheros is located in the Andean highlands in the central west of the province of Chincheros on the right eastern river bank of the north-flowing Río Pampas.

The Chincheros district is bordered to the west by the district Concepción ( province Vilcas Huamán ), to the north by the district Huaccana , in the northeast on the district Ongoy , on the east by the district Anco Huallo and the south by the district Cocharcas .
