The district of Anco Huallo , alternative spellings: District Anccohuayllo and District Anco-Huallo , is located in the province of Chincheros in the Apurímac region in central Peru . The district was established on February 20, 1964. The district was named after Anku Walluq, a leader of the Chanka in the 15th century.
The district has an area of 91 km². At the 2017 census, 10,746 people lived in the district. In 1993 the population was 9,740, in 2007 10,898. The district administration is located in the small town of Uripa with 6365 inhabitants (as of 2017) at an altitude of about 3204 m . Uripa is 5.5 km east of the provincial capital Chincheros .
Geographical location
The district of Anco Huallo is centrally located in the Andean highlands in the province of Chincheros. It has a lengthwise extension in the NNW-SSE direction of 17.5 km and a maximum width of 8.2 km. The area is drained west to the Río Pampas . The national road 3S from Chincheros to Andahuaylas crosses the district in an easterly direction.
The district of Anco Huallo borders in the southwest with the district Cocharcas , in the west with the district Chincheros , in the north with the district Ongoy , in the northeast and in the east with the district Rocchacc , in the east with the district Ranracancha and in the south with the district Uranmarca .
