The Los Chankas district is located in the Chincheros province in the Apurímac region in central Peru . The district was formed on June 14, 2016 from parts of the Huaccana district. The district name refers to the indigenous people of the Chanka .

The district area is 145 km². The 2017 census counted 1051 inhabitants. The district administration is located in the village of Río Blanco with 279 inhabitants (as of 2017) at an altitude of 2035  m on the right bank of the Río Pampas . Río Blanco is 14 km northwest of the provincial capital Chincheros . At Río Blanco the national road 3S (Chincheros - Ayacucho ) crosses the Río Pampas.

Geographical location

The Los Chankas district is located in the Andean highlands in the north-west of the Chincheros province on the right-hand eastern bank of the north-flowing Río Pampas. The northeastern boundary of the district forms the small river Río Pulcay.

The Los Chankas district borders on the Ocros district ( Huamanga province ) to the west . In the north, east and south the district is enclosed by the district Huaccana.
