The district of Ocros is located in the province of Huamanga in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district was established on July 15, 1936. It has an area of 204 km². The 2017 census counted 5,702 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 5190, in 2007 it was 5615. The district administration is located in the 3125 m high village of Ocros with 575 inhabitants (as of 2017). Ocros is located 42 km southeast of the provincial and regional capital Ayacucho (Huamanga).
Geographical location
The Ocros district is located in the Andean highlands in the extreme southeast of the Huamanga province. The Río Pampas flows north along the eastern district boundary.
The Ocros district borders in the south on the district Concepción ( province Vilcas Huamán ), in the southwest on the district Vischongo (also in the province Vilcas Huamán), in the west on the district Acocro , in the north on the district Luis Carranza ( province La Mar ) and in the east to the Los Chankas district ( Chincheros province ).
