The Pacaycasa district is located in the Huamanga Province in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district was established on January 26, 1958. It has an area of ​​58.5 km². The 2017 census counted 3296 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 2065, in 2007 it was 2842. The district administration is located in the 2535  m high village of Pacaycasa with 576 inhabitants (as of 2017). Pacaycasa is located 11 km northeast of the provincial and regional capital Ayacucho (Huamanga).

Geographical location

The Pacaycasa district is located in the Andean highlands in the north of the Huamanga province. The Río Cachi flows north along the western district boundary. Its right tributary, the Rio Yucay, limits the district to the south.

The Pacaycasa district borders in the southwest on the Ayacucho district , in the west on the Chincho district ( Angaraes province ), in the north on the Iguaín and Huamanguilla districts (both in the Huanta province ) and in the east on the Quinua district .
