The Acos Vinchos District is located in the Huamanga Province in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district emerged during the founding years of the Republic of Peru. It has an area of ​​154 km². The 2017 census counted 4600 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 3424, in 2007 it was 5100. The district administration is located in the 2848  m high village of Acos Vinchos with 704 inhabitants (as of 2017). Acos Vinchos is located about 15 km east-northeast of the provincial and regional capital Ayacucho (Huamanga).

Geographical location

The Acos Vinchos district is located in the Andean highlands in the north-east of the Huamanga province. The Río Yucay, tributary of the Río Cachi , flows along the southwestern district boundary to the northwest and drains the area. Its right tributary Quebrada Rumimachay limits the district to the south.

The Acos Vinchos district borders in the south on the Acocro district , in the southwest on the Tambillo district , in the northwest on the Quinua district and in the east on the San Miguel district ( La Mar province ).
