The Andrés Avelino Cáceres Dorregaray district is located in the Huamanga Province in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district was separated from the Ayacucho district on April 6, 2013 . The district was named after Andrés Avelino Cáceres , a general in the saltpeter war and national hero.
The district has an area of 8.04 km². The 2017 census counted 29,230 inhabitants. The district administration is located in the 2750 m high Jardín with 25,726 inhabitants (as of 2017). Jardín is located in the east of the metropolitan area of the provincial and regional capital Ayacucho (Huamanga). The Ayacucho Airport (Aeropuerto Coronel FAP Alfredo Mendivil Duarte) is located within the district.
Geographical location
The Andrés Avelino Cáceres Dorregaray district is centrally located in the Andean highlands in the Huamanga province. The district is part of the greater Ayacucho area. It is in the northeast. The district is bounded in the west and north by the Río Alameda and in the east by the Río Huatata.
The Andrés Avelino Cáceres Dorregaray district borders in the extreme southwest of the district Ayacucho , in the west and the north by the District Jesus Nazareno , on the east by the district Tambillo and in the south by the district of San Juan Bautista .
