The Jesús Nazareno district is located in the Huamanga Province in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district was formed on June 6, 2000 from parts of Ayacucho district. The district has an area of 16.3 km². The 2017 census counted 18,492 inhabitants. In 2007 the population was 15,399. The district administration is located in the 2780 m high city of Las Nazarenas with 17,590 inhabitants (as of 2017). Las Nazarenas is a northeastern suburb of the provincial and regional capital Ayacucho (Huamanga).
Geographical location
The Jesús Nazareno district is located in the central north of the Huamanga Province, immediately northeast of the regional capital Ayacucho (Huamanga). The district is located in the eastern Andean highlands . The Río Alameda and Río Huata rivers run along the eastern and northeastern district boundaries.
The Jesús Nazareno district borders on the Ayacucho district in the west, the Quinua and Tambillo districts in the northeast and the Andrés Avelino Cáceres Dorregaray district in the south .
