The district of San Juan Bautista is located in the province of Huamanga in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district was established on April 7, 1960. The district has an area of ​​15.6 km². The 2017 census counted 50,325 residents. In 1993 the population was 20,558, in 2007 it was 38,457. The district administration is located in the 2800  m high city of San Juan Bautista with 50,262 inhabitants (as of 2017). San Juan Bautista is located in the southeast of the metropolitan area of ​​the provincial and regional capital Ayacucho (Huamanga).

Geographical location

The district of San Juan Bautista is centrally located in the Andean highlands in the province of Huamanga. The district is part of the greater Ayacucho area. It is located east of the Chaqui Huayco River.

The district of San Juan Bautista is bordered to the west by the Carmen Alto district , to the northwest by the Ayacucho district , to the north by the Andrés Avelino Cáceres Dorregaray district , to the east by the Tambillo district and to the south by the Chiara district .
