The Angaraes Province is one of seven provinces in the Huancavelica region in southwestern Peru . The province has an area of ​​1959 km². The 2017 census counted 52,227 residents. In 1993 the population was 43,060, in 2007 it was 55,704. The provincial administration is located in the small town of Lircay .

Geographical location

The Angaraes province is located about 270 km southeast of the state capital Lima . It extends over the Andean highlands west of the Peruvian Central Cordillera . The Río Cachi (also Río Huarpa ) runs along the eastern provincial border. Its left tributary, Río Urubamba, crosses the province in a predominantly eastern direction.

The province of Angaraes borders in the northwest with the province Huancavelica , in the north with the province Acobamba , in the east with the region Ayacucho and in the southwest with the province Huaytará .

Administrative division

The Angaraes province is divided into twelve districts (distritos) . The Lircay district is the seat of the provincial administration.
