The district of Congalla is located in the Angaraes province in the Huancavelica region in south-western central Peru . The district was founded on September 3, 1941. It has an area of ​​209 km². In the 2017 census, 3765 inhabitants were counted. In 1993 the population was 4114, in 2007 it was 4,381. The district administration is located in the 3523  m high village of Congalla with 954 inhabitants (as of 2017). Congalla lies 25 km east-northeast of the provincial capital Lircay .

Geographical location

The district of Congalla is located in the arid Andean highlands in the northeast of the Angaraes province. The Río Urubamba limits the district in the north, its right tributary Río Huarancayoc in the east.

The district of Congalla borders in the south with the district Secclla , in the west with the district Huanca-Huanca , in the north with the districts Acobamba , Pomacocha and Caja (all three in the province Acobamba ) and in the east with the district Julcamarca .
