The Pomacocha District is located in the Acobamba Province in the Huancavelica region in southwest central Peru . The district was established on November 23, 1925. It has an area of 55.2 km². The 2017 census counted 3,024 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 4492, in 2007 it was 4273. The district administration is located in the 3150 m high village of Pomacocha with 353 inhabitants (as of 2017). Pomacocha is 5 km southeast of the provincial capital Acobamba .
Geographical location
The Pomacocha district is located in the arid Andean highlands in the south-east-central part of the Acobamba province. In the south the area is bounded by the Río Urubamba .
The Pomacocha district borders on the Congalla district ( Angaraes province ) in the south, the Acobamba district in the west and the Caja district in the east .
