The province of Acobamba is one of seven provinces in the Huancavelica region in southwestern Peru . The province has an area of ​​911 km². At the 2017 census, 40,324 people lived in the province. In 1993 the population was 42,096, in 2007 it was 63,792. The provincial administration is located in the small town of Acobamba .

Geographical location

The province of Acobamba is located about 280 km east-southeast of the state capital Lima . It extends over the Andean highlands west of the Peruvian Central Cordillera and has a lengthwise extension in NW-SE direction of 55 km. The upper reaches of the Río Mantaro flows south along the northeastern provincial border.

The province of Acobamba borders in the north on the province of Tayacaja , in the northeast on the Churcampa , in the southeast on the Ayacucho region , in the south on the province Angaraes and in the west on the province Huancavelica .

Administrative division

The province of Acobamba is divided into eight districts (Distritos) . The Acobamba district is the seat of the provincial administration.
