The Tayacaja Province is one of seven provinces in the Huancavelica region in central Peru . The province has an area of 3371 km². In the 2017 census, 86,172 people lived in the province. In 1993 the population was 97,639, in 2007 104,901. The provincial administration is located in the small town of Pampas .
Geographical location
The province of Tayacaja is located about 240 km east-southeast of the state capital Lima . It is located in the Peruvian Central Cordillera . The upper reaches of the Río Mantaro forms the southwestern provincial border, the lower reaches of the Río Mantaro crosses the province in a northerly direction and then turns to the east, running along the northern provincial border.
The province of Tayacaja borders in the northwest with the province Huancayo ( region Junín ), in the northeast with the province Satipo (also in the region Junín), in the east with the province Huanta ( region Ayacucho ) and in the south with the provinces Churcampa and Huancavelica .
Administrative division
The province of Tayacaja is divided into 21 districts (distritos) . The district of Pampas is the seat of the provincial administration.
