The Ñahuimpuquio district is located in the Tayacaja Province in the Huancavelica region in southwest central Peru . The district was founded on November 6, 1903. It has an area of ​​66.4 km². The 2017 census counted 1549 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 2593, in 2007 2175. The seat of the district administration is the 3630  m high village Ñahuimpuquio with 702 inhabitants (as of 2017). Ñahuimpuquio is located 23 km west-northwest of the provincial capital Pampas .

Geographical location

The Ñahuimpuquio district is located on the western edge of the Peruvian Central Cordillera in the extreme southwest of the Tayacaja province. The district is bounded by the Río Mantaro to the west and south-west .

The Ñahuimpuquio district is bordered to the west and northwest by the Colca and Cullhuas districts (both in the Huancayo province ), to the northeast by the Pazos district , to the southeast by the Acostambo district and to the southwest by the Pilchaca district ( Huancavelica province ).
