The district of San Marcos de Rocchac is located in the province of Tayacaja in the region of Huancavelica in the southwest of central Peru . The district was founded on June 7, 1961. It has an area of 287 km². The 2017 census counted 1947 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 3627, in 2007 it was 3202. The seat of the district administration is the 3182 m high village of San Marcos de Rocchac with 296 inhabitants (as of 2017). San Marcos de Rocchac is located 34 km north of the provincial capital Pampas .
Geographical location
The district of San Marcos de Rocchac is located in the Peruvian Central Cordillera in the extreme northwest of the Tayacaja province. The longitudinal extension in east-west direction is almost 32 km, the maximum width is 11 km. The area is drained to the east via the Río Acobamba, Río Matibamba and Río Pariahuanca to the Río Mantaro .
The district of San Marcos de Rocchac borders in the west on the districts Pucará and Sapallanga (both in the province of Huancayo ), in the northwest and in the north on the districts of Huancayo and Pariahuanca (also both in the province of Huancayo), in the northeast on the district of Salcahuasi , to the east to the Salcabamba district , to the southeast to the Huaribamba district , to the south to the Pichos district and to the southwest to the Pazos district .
