The province of Huancayo is located in the southwest of the administrative region Junín in central Peru , 200 km east of the state capital Lima . The province is 3558 km². The provincial capital is Huancayo , which is also the capital of the Junín region.

Geographical location

The province of Huancayo extends in NE-SW direction over a length of almost 150 km. In the extreme southwest lies the Peruvian Western Cordillera , in the northeast the Peruvian Central Cordillera . In between lies the Andes highlands with the capital Huancayo.

In the north the province of Huancayo borders on the provinces of Chupaca and Concepción , in the east on the province of Satipo . In the west lies the administrative region of Lima , in the south the administrative region of Huancavelica .

population

The population was 466,346 in 2007. Ten years later it was 545,615.

Huancayo Province is divided into 28 districts. The Huancayo District is the seat of the provincial administration.
