The Sicaya district is located in the Huancayo province of the Junín region in central western Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. It has an area of 42.3 km². At the 2017 census there were 16,932 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 6367, in 2007 7532. The administrative seat is the eponymous city of Sicaya , 3282 m high , which is congruent with the district.
Geographical location
The Sicaya district is located in the Andean highlands in the northwest of the metropolitan area of the provincial and regional capital Huancayo on the western bank of the south-flowing Río Mantaro . In the northwest, the Sicaya district borders on the Orcotuna district ( Concepción province ), in the east on the districts of San Pedro de Saño , Hualhuas and San Agustín de Cajas , in the southeast on the Pilcomayo district , in the south on the Chupaca district and in the southwest the district of Huachac (the latter two in the province of Chupaca ).
