The Huancayo District is located in the Huancayo Province of the Junín Region in central western Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. It has an area of ​​237.55 km². In the 2017 census, 119,993 people lived in the district. In 1993 the population was 100,116, in 2007 112,054. The administrative seat is the eponymous city ​​of Huancayo , 3249  m high , which is the seat of the provincial and regional administration. There are no other places worth mentioning in the district.

Geographical location

The Huancayo district includes the provincial and regional capital Huancayo and extends in the northeast to the 5557  m high Cordillera Huaytapallana , a mountain range of the Peruvian Central Cordillera . It has a maximum longitudinal extent in SW-NE direction of about 27 km. The Río Mantaro flows south along the western district boundary. The district borders in the south on the districts of San Marcos de Rocchac ( Tayacaja province ), Sapallanga and Chilca , in the west on the district Huamancaca Chico ( province Chupaca ), in the northwest on the district El Tambo and in the northeast on the district Pariahuanca .
