The Pilcomayo district is located in the Huancayo province of the Junín region in central western Peru . The district was founded on September 15, 1844. It has an area of ​​9.06 km². At the 2017 census, there were 20,055 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 8455, in 2007 13,295. The administrative seat is the eponymous city ​​of Pilcomayo at an altitude of 3247  m , which is congruent with the district.

Geographical location

The Pilcomayo district is located in the Andean highlands in the northwest of the metropolitan area of ​​the provincial and regional capital Huancayo . The Río Mantaro flows along the eastern district boundary to the south, its tributary Río Cunas along the southern district boundary to the east. In the northwest, the Pilcomayo district is bordered by the Sicaya district , in the northeast with the San Agustín de Cajas district , in the east with the El Tambo district , in the south with the Huamancaca Chico district and in the southwest with the Chupaca district (the latter two in the province Chupaca ).
