The province of Jauja is located in the west of the administrative region Junín in central Peru , 190 km east of the state capital Lima . The province is 3749 km². The provincial capital is the city of Jauja , 45 km northwest of the regional capital Huancayo .
Geographical location
The province of Jauja stretches in the west to the glaciated mountain range Cordillera Huarochirí , which is part of the Peruvian Western Cordillera . The capital Jauja is centrally located on the upper reaches of the Río Mantaro in the Andes highlands. The east of the province extends over part of the Central Cordillera . This part of the province is traversed by the Río Tulumayo and its left tributary, the Río Tambillo . In the south, the province of Jauja borders on the province of Concepción , in the north on the provinces of Yauli and Tarma .

The population was 92,053 in 2007, and 83,257 in 2017.

The Jauja Province is divided into 34 districts. The district of Jauja is the seat of the provincial administration.
