The Huamalí district is located in the Jauja province in the Junín region in central western Peru . The district was founded on December 4, 1911. It has an area of 19.6 km². At the 2017 census, there were 1711 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 2153, in 2007 it was 1968. The administrative center is the 3339 m high village of Huamalí with 1336 inhabitants (as of 2017). Huamalí is located 8.5 km southeast of the provincial capital Jauja . The national road 3S from Jauja to Huancayo runs through the district.
Geographical location
The Huamalí district is located in the south of the Jauja province. It is located in the Andean highlands on the left eastern bank of the Río Mantaro, which flows southeast .
The Huamalí district borders in the southwest on the Muqui district , in the northwest on the Ataura district , in the north on the Masma district , in the northeast and east on the Masma Chicche district and in the south on the El Mantaro district .
