The Jauja District is located in the Jauja Province in the Junín Region in southwest-central Peru . The district was founded in 1822. It has an area of 9.85 km². At the 2017 census, 17,908 people lived in Sausa. In 1993 the population was 19,275, in 2007 it was 16,524. The administrative seat is the provincial capital Jauja, at an altitude of 3340 m , with 17,796 inhabitants (as of 2017). The city is almost congruent with the Jauja district. Jauja is located 45 km north-northwest of the regional capital Huancayo . Jauja Airport is located in the southeast of the district .
Geographical location
The district of Jauja is located in the Andean highlands in the center of the province of Jauja. It has a maximum lengthwise extension in NW-SE direction of about 6.5 km. The Río Mantaro flows 3 km southwest and south of Jauja. Its left tributary Río Yacus forms the eastern boundary of the district
The Jauja district is bordered to the west by the district Acolla , on the north by the district PanCAN , in the northeast on the district Huertas , in the southeast of the district Ataura and on the south by the districts Sausa and Yauyos .
