Peruanos Por el Kambio ( Spanish for Peruvians for change ), PPK for short , is a Peruvian party with a political center-right orientation, which is assigned to the liberal spectrum . Its founder Pedro Pablo Kuczynski was President of the Republic of Peru until March 2018, but with 18 out of 130 members of the Peruvian Congress, it was only the third largest parliamentary group there. In 2020 the newly elected Parliament is no longer represented.
history
The PPK party was founded on June 24, 2011 and officially registered for elections in October 2014. The Spanish word cambio ("change") is intentionally capitalized in the party name Kambio and por , so that the party abbreviation of P eruanos P or el K ambio corresponds exactly to the initials of their party chairman P edro P ablo K uczynski.
Pedro Pablo Kuczynski announced his second presidential candidacy on April 26, 2015. In the first round of the presidential elections, the PPK received 21.05% of the valid votes and thus landed in second place behind Keiko Fujimori from the Fuerza Popular party , who won 39.86%. came so that these two got into the runoff election.
The majority of the losing candidates in the first round now support the PPK in order to prevent a return of fujimorismo in the form of Alberto Fujimori's daughter Keiko. Despite strong political contradictions, not only Alejandro Toledo Manrique , under whom the PPK had been Prime Minister, but also the left-wing ecological candidate Verónika Mendoza from Frente Amplio, called for the election of PPKs.
PPK won the runoff election with 50.120% of the vote, while Keiko Fujimori was defeated with 49.880%, so that Kuczynski became President of the Republic of Peru for the electoral period from 2016 to 2021.
After Kuczynski took over the office of state president, the PPK member of the Peruvian Congress Gilbert Violeta became party chairman on August 7, 2016. Salvador Heresi became the general secretary.
