Frente Amplio por Justicia, Vida y Libertad ( Spanish for Broad Front for Justice, Life and Freedom ), Frente Amplio for short , is a Peruvian electoral coalition made up of parties , political organizations, representatives of social movements and individuals with politically left-wing and ecological goals. In the early parliamentary elections in January 2020 , she received 6, 16% of the vote and nine parliamentary seats.

history

The electoral alliance Frente Amplio was founded on June 21, 2013 by representatives of the groups and parties Ciudadanos por el Cambio , Movimiento de Afirmación Social (MAS), Tierra y Libertad , Fuerza Social , Patria Roja and Partido Socialista del Perú . A few months later , at the request of the other groups, the Tierra y Libertad party , which had valid electoral registration, temporarily took over the official name Frente Amplio with the addition of por la Vida, la Justicia y la Libertad and the logo of a stylized red-green cantuta flower and the abbreviation FA in the middle. Tierra y Libertad now offered its electoral registration in order to enable the allied political groups to participate in the electoral process on an equal basis. Then Marco Arana from Tierra y Libertad and Verónika Mendoza from Movimiento Sembrar competed against each other in primary elections, which Verónika Mendoza won with over 75%.

The parliamentary group Acción Popular - Frente Amplio , which was formed from five MPs from the Acción Popular party and five non-party members, had existed since July 2012 after Acción Popular dissolved the joint group with the two parties Perú Posible and Somos Perú . This parliamentary group also included Verónika Mendoza, who had previously belonged to President Ollanta Humala's Gana Perú government group, but who in June 2012 after the suppression of protests by indigenous Quechua communities in the province of Espinar against the expansion of a copper mine by the Xstrata mining company in Tintaya , in which two deaths were to be mourned, had left.

In the elections in Peru on 10 April 2016 achieved Frente Amplio 13.9% of the votes in the general election and received 20 of 130 seats in Congress, making them the second largest group after Fuerza Popular of Keiko Fujimori represents. In the presidential elections taking place at the same time, Verónika Mendoza came in third place with 18.7%, so that she missed the runoff election. On June 1, 2016, shortly before the second round on June 5, 2016, Mendoza appealed not to vote for Keiko Fujimori and therefore - despite strong political differences - for Pedro Pablo Kuczynski to prevent a return of fujimorismo . To this end, she turned to the residents of her home region in Quechua . After Kuczynski's victory, however, Mendoza emphasized that she would be in opposition with her faction, Frente Amplio .
