Parliamentary elections in Peru January 2020

The parliamentary elections in Peru in January 2020 took place ahead of schedule on January 26, 2020. The new election of parliament became necessary after President Martín Vizcarra dissolved the Congress of the Republic of Peru on September 30, 2019. The occasion was a dispute over the occupation of the Constitutional Court . Voting was based on proportional representation with open lists, in order to obtain parliamentary seats, a party had to receive at least 5% of the vote across the country or at least seven seats in one constituency. 24,812,087 voters were registered and the turnout was 74.07%. Voting is compulsory in Peru.
