The district of Sincos is located in the province of Jauja in the region of Junín in southwest-central Peru . The district was founded on November 16, 1864. It has an area of ​​231 km². At the 2017 census, 4056 people lived in the district of Sincos. In 1993 the population was 3678, in 2007 it was 4469. The administrative seat is the town of Sincos with 1454 inhabitants , located on the western bank of the Río Mantaro at an altitude of about 3300  m (as of 2017). Sincos is located 17 km southeast of the provincial capital Jauja . Another larger place in the district is Aramchay with 615 inhabitants.

Geographical location

The district of Sincos is located in the Andean highlands in the south of the province of Jauja. It has a maximum longitudinal extent in west-east direction of about 30 km. The eastern border of the district is the Río Mantaro, which flows southeast. In the southwest, the Río Pucara, a left tributary of the Río Cunas , runs along the district boundary to the east.

The Sincos district borders on the Canchayllo district to the west , the Llocllapampa , Paccha and Leonor Ordóñez districts to the north, the Matahuasi district ( Concepción province ) to the northeast , and the Mito , Aco , Chambara and San José de Quero districts to the south ( all in the province of Concepción).
