The Río Tulumayo is the right source river of the Río Chanchamayo in central Peru , in the provinces of Concepción , Jauja and Chanchamayo of the administrative region Junín .

River course

The Río Tulumayo rises in the Cordillera Huaytapallana at an altitude of about 4800  m , 3 km north of the main summit Huaytapallana ( 5557  m ). The Río Tulumayo is fed by a glacial lake . It flows in a predominantly north-northwest direction through the Peruvian Central Cordillera . At river kilometer 35, the tributaries Río Maranchocha from the right and Río Tambillo from the left meet the Río Tulumayo. This is dammed up immediately afterwards, at river kilometer 34.5 from the Chimay dam . Below this, most of the water is fed to the Chimay hydropower plant via a 9170 m long pipe . Below this, 500 m above the confluence of the Río Monobamba , the water returns to the river. The Río Tulumayo flows along the eastern outskirts of San Ramón before it meets the Río Tarma coming from the west and unites with this to the Río Chanchamayo.
