Emin Sabitoğlu ( Emin Sabit oğlu Mahmudov , Russian Эмин Сабит оглы Махмудов ; born November 2, 1937 in Baku, Azerbaijani SSR , Soviet Union ; † November 18, 2000 in Baku, Azerbaijan ) was an Azerbaijani composer and music teacher . His main field of activity was film music .

Life

Emin Sabitoğlu's father was the Azerbaijani writer and playwright Sabit Rəhman (1910–1970). First he received piano lessons for ten years at the music school of the Azerbaijan State Conservatory. At the age of 13 he received composition lessons from Midhət Əhmədov (* 1914) and his first compositions were written. He then entered Quara Quarayev's composition class at the Azerbaijan State Conservatory. After two years of study, he graduated from the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow in 1957 and attended Yuri Alexandrovich Schaporin's composition class there . He studied there from 1957 to 1961. From 1961 to 1967 he was chief music editor of the Azərbaycanfilm film studio . Here he worked with several Azerbaijani directors such as Arif Babayev (1928–1983), Ramiz Əliyev (* 1938), Rasim Ocaqov (1933–2006) and Həsən Seyidbəyli (1920–1980). Since 1961 he was a member of the Azerbaijani and Soviet composers' associations. He was a board member in the Azerbaijan Association. He had known his first wife Cəmilə since he was a child and they both attended the conservatory. They married in 1962. From 1962 he taught composition as a lecturer at the Azerbaijani State Conservatory in Baku. In 1964 their daughter Ceyran Mahmudova, later also a musician and professor for the history and theory of folk music at the Baku Music Academy , was born. Since 1963 he was a member of the Union of Filmmakers of the USSR . From 1967 to 1968 he was head of the Azerbaijani State Philharmonic. In 1968 he was awarded the Lenin - Komsomol prize. Since 1977 he was a member of the Azerbaijani theater society. In 1978 he received the honorary title of Honored Artist of the Azerbaijan SSR . In the same year he was appointed professor at the Azerbaijan State Conservatory. In 1986 he received the State Prize of the Azerbaijani SSR. In 1994 he was appointed professor at the Conservatory, now Baku Music Academy.

After divorcing his first wife Cəmilə, he married the singer Xədicə Abbasova (* 1957). In 1994, like many other Azerbaijani musicians, he went to Istanbul with his second wife Xədicə Abbasova . Here he was visiting professor for composition at the Turkish State Conservatory at the Technical University until his death. He also taught music history and instrument studies here. In 1997 he was awarded the Şöhrət Order . On October 28, 2000 he was awarded the honorary title of People's Artist of the Republic of Azerbaijan . On November 14, 2000, he flew from Istanbul to Baku. Here he was to receive the honorary title of People's Artist. In this context, a state ceremony was planned for his father Sabit R sichhman, whose birthday marked the ninetieth time. Emin Sabitoğlu died before the celebrations on November 18, 2000 in Baku. In 2001 he was posthumously awarded the Qızıl Dərviş [Golden Dervish] of the Association of Drama Artists of Azerbaijan .

Works (selection)

Emin Sabitoğlu wrote over 600 songs such as Bakı, sabahın xeyir [Good morning, Baku], Dərələr , Ağ çiçək , Uzaq, yaşıl ada , Kəpənək , Belə ola həmişə and Bu gecə. One focus was on film music. So he wrote the music for about 40 films, documentaries and feature films. For the music to Qaçaq Nəbi he was awarded the State Prize of the Azerbaijani SSR. He was also successful in the operetta genre. He celebrated his greatest successes with Hicran , Nəğməli Koenül , Bildirçinin bəyliyi and Bankir adaxlı. He also wrote a symphony, a string quartet and a poem for violin and piano. He wrote stage music for various theaters, such as the Baku theaters and the Sumqayıt , Gəncə , Lənkəran , Mingəçevir and Naxçıvan theaters .

Commemoration

On August 5, 2017, Azerbaijani President İlham Əliyev ordered the celebration of Emin Sabitoğlu's 80th birthday.
