Qara Qarayev Əbülfəz oğlu ( Russian Кара Абульфазович Караев / Kara Abulfasowitsch Karajew * January 23 jul. / 5. February  1918 greg. In Baku ; †  13. May 1982 in Moscow ) was a Soviet and Azerbaijani composer .

Life

Qarayev was born in Baku as the son of the doctor Əbülfəz Fər Qc oğlu Qarayev . His mother was very interested in music. He studied from 1935 to 1938 with Üzeyir Hacıbəyov and Leonid Rudolf at the Baku Conservatory and then at the Moscow Conservatory with Dmitri Shostakovich . In 1938 his first major piece, Pesnja serdza (Russian Песня сердца; roughly "Song of the Heart"), a setting of a poem by Rəsul Rza , premiered at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow .

In 1941 Qarayev took over the management of the Baku Philharmonic . From 1949 to 1953 he was head of the city's conservatory , where he later, from 1959, worked as a professor. Among his students the composer Rauf Hajiyev , Arif Məlikov , Vasif Adıgözəlov , Xəyyam Mirzəzadə , Sevda Ibrahimova , Afaq Cəfərova , Nərgiz Şəfiyeva , Firəngiz Əlizadə , Ismayil Hacıbəyov , Elnarə Dadaşova , Rəhilə Həsənova and Arif Mirzoyev . His son Fərəc Qarayev is also a successful composer.

Qarayev created two operas , two ballets ( Seven Beauties and The Path of Thunder ), three symphonies and two symphonic poems, the Albanian Rhapsody , symphonic engravings , choreographic images , a musical image , a piano concerto, string quartets and other chamber music works, two cantatas , Songs and film music (including Goya - or the evil path of knowledge , Don Quixote ).
