The Azerbaijan State Philharmonic (actually Azerbaijani State Mueslum Maqomayev Philharmonic ; Azerbaijani : Müslüm Maqomayev adına Azərbaycan Dövlət Filarmoniyası ) is a concert hall in the Azerbaijani capital, Baku .

The concert hall was founded in 1936 and is a national cultural institution of Azerbaijan. Institutionally, it is part of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan. The building is located in the city center at Istiqlaliyyət küçəsi 2. The Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Redeemer , built by Caucasus Germans , is now also used as a concert hall.

history

The building of the State Philharmonic of Azerbaijan was built between 1910 and 1912 in the style of eclecticism . In 1920 the independent ensembles, orchestras and music groups were brought together in this building. On May 25, 1936, as in the other Union Republics of the USSR , a state philharmonic was founded in Azerbaijan. The Azerbaijan State Philharmonic has been named after the composer Müslüm Maqomayev since 1937 .

There are two halls in the concert hall: the large hall with 1,100 seats and the small hall with 610 seats.

The Philharmonic is a repertoire company for classical music and Azerbaijani music . Seven ensembles are active within the State Philharmonic: the State Symphony Orchestra , the State Choir Band , the Qara Qarayev Chamber Orchestra , the State Fortepiano Trio , the State Quartet , the ensemble of FikrƏt Ensmirov , the singing and dance ensemble and the ensemble under its direction State orchestra for folk instruments . There are also performances by famous foreign ensembles and soloists.
