The Azerbaijan State Symphony Orchestra Hajibejow ( Azerbaijani Hacıbəyov adına Azərbaycan Dövlət Simfonik Orkestri ) is the most prominent orchestra in Azerbaijan . It was founded in 1920 at the suggestion of the composer Üzejir Hajibeyov as one of the first orchestras of the Azerbaijani SSR and the Soviet Union . The seat of the orchestra is located in the Azerbaijan State Philharmonic in Baku .

Composers such as Rhené-Baton and Otto Klemperer were invited from abroad to support the development and training of the orchestra. The first chief conductor was Üzejir Hajibeev. From 1938 to 1984 his nephew Nijazi Hajibejow conducted the orchestra. After his death, the Azerbaijani folk artist Professor Rauf Abdullajew took over the post of conductor. The orchestra has toured a number of countries including the United States , United Kingdom , France , Germany , Switzerland , Italy , Turkey and Egypt .
