Rauf Soltan oğlu Hacıyev ( Russian Рауф Солтан оглы Гаджиев ; born May 15, 1922 in Baku , Azerbaijani SSR , Federal Union of Transcaucasian Soviet Socialist Republics; † September 19, 1995 ) was an Azerbaijani composer .

life and work

Rauf Hacıyev studied with Üzeyir Hacıbəyov at the Baku Music School . During this time he composed his first song, Samur . At the Azerbaijan State Conservatory, he continued his studies in Qaya Qarayev's composition class and graduated in 1953. During his studies he composed a concerto for violin and orchestra and the symphony Gənclik [youth]. The violin concerto was added to their repertoire by major Azerbaijani violinists, including Azad Əliyev (1928–1994) and Sərvər Qəniyev (1937–2010). This was followed by the symphonic poems Şeyx Sənan, Səbuhi , Həzi Aslanov and the cantata Səməd Vurğun. He has written several operettas for the stage, including Romeo mənim qonşumdur [Romeo is my neighbor], Kuba-məhəbbətim mənim [Cuba is my love], Ana mən evlənirəm [I am married], Dördüncü fəqərə and Yolayrıcı [the passenger]. Most of the operettas premiered in the Moscow Operetta Theater and saw performances in many cities of the Soviet Union. Romeo mənim qonşumdur was first brought to the stage under the title Qonşular [Neighbors] and was filmed in 1963 by the director Şamil Mahmudbəyov. The operetta Ordan-burdan was commissioned by Azerbaijani television for the 100th birthday of Üzeyir Hacıbəyov. In the ballet genre, he wrote the two choreographic miniatures Ləzgihəngi and Yallı. In 1960 he was awarded the honorary title of People's Artist of the Azerbaijani SSR . From 1965 to 1970 he directed the Azərbaycan Dövlət Estrada Orkestr i [Azerbaijani State Estrada Orchestra].

In 1971 Hacıyev was sent to Algeria with a Soviet delegation to set up a professional music education system. He taught at the Algerian National Conservatory. During this time he studied the cultural history of the country and collected folk songs there. He was actively involved in the opening of an Algerian national theater and wrote the first Algerian national ballets - Üç inqilab , Alov and Hürriyyət . Hacıyev has also composed for the stage and film and has created film scores for more than fifteen films such as Əhməd haradadır? [Where is Ahmed ?], Kölgələr sürünür [shadow] and Bir qalanın sirri [the secret of the tower]. In Əlcəzair silsilə, a concerto for violin and orchestra, he processed Algerian themes, arranged fifteen Algerian folk songs for choir and orchestra and wrote an Əlcəzair süitası [Algerian suite] for orchestra. After his return he was director of the Azerbaijan State Philharmonic for many years . At his instigation, the Azərbaycan Dövlət Xor Kapellası [Azerbaijani State Choir Band ], the Azərbaycan Dövlət Mahnı Teatrı [Azerbaijani State Song Theater ], the Azərbaycan Dövlət R Anqs Ansamblı [Azerbaijani State Dance Ensemble]. In 1978 he received the honorary title of People's Artist of the USSR .

In addition to symphonic works, Rauf Hacıyev wrote oratorios and cantatas. He wrote over 150 songs including Azərbaycanım [Azerbaijan], Sevgilim [My Love], Gənclik valsı [Waltz of Youth] and Yaz gəlir [Summer is Coming]. He played an important role in the development of Azerbaijani film music.

Commemoration

The Music School No. 15 in Baku was named in memory of Rauf Hacıyev Rauf Hacıyev adına 15 nömrəli Onbirillik Musiqi Məktəbi.
