The Acolla district is located in the Jauja Province in the Junín region in central western Peru . The district was founded on October 26, 1886. It has an area of ​​120 km². At the 2017 census, there were 6,485 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 10,149, in 2007 8,402. The administrative seat is the 3467  m high town of Acolla with 3528 inhabitants (as of 2017). Acolla is 7 km northeast of the provincial capital Jauja .

Geographical location

The Acolla district is located in the Andean highlands, centrally in the Jauja province. The longitudinal extent in NNW-SSE direction is almost 24 km, the maximum width is 10 km. In the southeast the district extends to the city limits of Jauja.

The Acolla district borders in the southwest on the Marco and Tunanmarca districts , in the northwest on the Pomacancha district , in the north on the Huaricola district , in the northeast on the Ricrán and Yauli districts , in the east on the Paca district , in the southeast on the Pancán and districts Jauja and in the south to the district of Yauyos .
