The Huertas district is located in the Jauja Province in the Junín region in central western Peru . The 12 km² district was founded on January 12, 1954. The 2017 census counted 2139 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 2173, in 2007 it was 1865. The administrative seat is the 3380 m high village of Huertas with 995 inhabitants (as of 2017). Huertas is 3.5 km east-northeast of the provincial capital Jauja .
Geographical location
The Huertas District is centrally located in the Jauja Province. The district is bounded in the north, in the west and in the south-west by the river of the Río Yácuy.
The district of Huertas borders in the southwest with the district Jauja , in the west with the district Pancán , in the north with the districts Yauli and district Molinos , in the northeast with the district Julcán and in the southeast with the districts Masma and Ataura .
